CBT at Work

Why CBT at work?

Bringing CBT into the workplace can have a range of positive effects on employees, offering them an outlet for any negative thoughts and improving and maintaining their mental health and wellbeing. Although some businesses are large scale entities employing many people, and some employ just a few people, it’s important to remember that all businesses are made up of individuals, some of whom could be suffering from, or struggling with mental health issues.

Specifically,

  • Workers diagnosed with depression lose 56 working days per year

  • Workers with anxiety lose 55 working days per year.

  • Workers who cite work-related stress also lose valuable time at work:

  • Workers reporting workplace conflict lose 55 working days in productivity per year.

  • Workers reporting the primary source of work stress is the relationship with their manager lose 49 working days in productivity per year.

  • Workers reporting fear of termination or layoff as their primary source of work stress lose 48 working days in productivity per year

  • Workers reporting the primary source of work stress is relationships with colleagues lose 47 working days in productivity per year.

  • Workers who cite the volume of work as source of work stress loss 39 working days in productivity per year. (01)

Employees who experience worry or anxiety may benefit from work-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help them return to optimum health and productivity. When bombarded with concerning news, constant change, and inevitable pressures at work and home to meet deadlines and balance life responsibilities, it is natural to experience feelings of worry and anxiety. Some times, issues in the workplace can be people issues, which need to be taken into account when dealing with your employees and clients alike.

As practitioners, we will carry out group CBT Sessions in your facility or ours, by dealing with mental health issues at their very core, rather than simply resolving the symptoms. CBT is a very effective and human approach in helping to prevent and/or resolve issues directly linked to mental health problems in the workplace. Businesses can help their employees to better deal with work stressors and help secure their future, and hence the future of the business.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is an audio-visual talk therapy that learns clients to manage their problems in a healthy, positive manner by adjusting the way they think, feel and react to those problems. It’s based on the concept that thoughts, feelings and actions are all intrinsically linked, and is based on breaking a negative cycle that can eventually develop into a mental health issue. Furthermore, CBT is based on current experiences and is, therefore, evidence based. People attending CBT sessions are provided with the tools, or information they require to break current negative cycles which leads to positive outcomes going forward. CBT is a powerful therapy that is used to treat issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, Insomnia, alcohol misuse, OCD and more.
